Contraband (2012)

“I’ve got to try and fix this. Trust me, I know what I’m doing.” – Chris Farraday

Number of Times Seen – Twice (18 April 2012 and 9 Feb 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A former smuggler is drawn back into the life he left behind in order to help his brother-in-law get out of trouble.

My Take on it – Typical Mark Wahlberg film that is fun, but lacks more of a backbone to it.

The story has some great twists and turns along the way which are helped by the way that they develop some of these characters along the way.

The supporting cast is superb with ate Beckinsale, Giovanni Ribisi, Ben Foster, Lucas Haas, Diego Luna and J.K. Simmons all adding so much to the story.

The story itself doesn’t feel very unique overall, but they find ways to keep it fun and enjoyable throughout.

They don’t manage to keep things thrilling despite trying very hard to make it feel more suspenseful.

Some of the twists along the way are a bit too predictable which also hurts things a bit.

Wahlberg has made a career out of these kind of films which are usually either hit or miss and in this instance, he really misses the mark because of the way things play out.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In a scene at the harbor, Kate Beckinsale is required to say goodbye to Mark Wahlberg, put their kids in the car, and drive away. Only when they came to shoot the scene did the producers learn that Kate doesn’t drive. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
