Seeking a Friend For the End of the World (2012)

“This isn’t the f*cking ark, Diane! This is the Titanic! And there is not a life raft in sight. ” – Warren

Number of Times Seen – Twice (15 Oct 2012 and 22 Feb 2021)

Brief Synopsis – As the world await destruction by an asteroid, two lonely souls meet up and try and help one another fulfill their one last wish before the world is destroyed.

My Take on it – Watching this during a global pandemic makes the story feel even more relevant.

The story is great and allows us to see how different people would react in these kind of situations.

They do an amazing job showing the various extremes that people choose to go through.

Steve Carell and Keira Knightley seem to be complete opposites yet they end up having great chemistry with one another which helps make things work even better.

The character arcs for both of them are presented well and they do a nice job making us care about what they each do and the repercussions of those actions.

Love the way that this film is a mixture of a road trip story, a romance and a film about people deciding what is most important to them when faced with the end of the world.

The journey that these characters take both physically and emotionally is engaging to watch and can be seen as a very profound look at how people act when faced with knowledge that the the end of the world is nearing.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – According to the date on News Today’s final issue hanging in the news stand near the beginning of the movie, the film takes place around March 24, 2021. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
