Take Me Home Tonight (2011)

“Tonight we’re not thinking… just doing.” – Matt Franklin

Number of Times Seen – Twice (15 Jun 2011 and 23 Feb 2021)

Brief Synopsis – Four years after graduation from high school, a college drop out decides to make his move on his teenage crush at a party

My Take on it – Really fun film that is able to get the 80’s vibe so right.

The cast is great with Topher Grace doing a very realistic job in conveying this character’s personality.

The rest of the cast is also great with Anna Faris, Dan Fogler, Teresa Palmer, Chris Pratt and Michael Biehn all helping add so much to the atmosphere of the story.

The film manages to capture the times of the 80’s really well and this film feels like something that might have been made back then y the way that characters act.

The music helps the 80’s atmosphere of the story and helps transport us back in time 40 years to a very different time and place.

The antics that all of these characters get into along the way enhance the humor and fun of the story and allows us to see the craziness of it all unfold.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Topher Grace revealed that the heavy drug use in the film caused the delayed release. Grace and director Michael Dowse wanted to “do something that felt like it was literally made in the ’80s” and not a parody of that generation. Grace believed it wouldn’t be the 80’s without heavy cocaine use, so there was “real hesitation” on part of the studios. The film ended up sitting on the shelf until Ron Howard and Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment came to the rescue. According to Grace, they even ended up “putting stuff back” in the film, rather than having to cut. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
