Number of Times Seen – 1 (5 Mar 2021)
Brief Synopsis – Thirty years after the events if the previous film, Akim must decide who will be his heir to throne.
My Take on it – Typical sequel that unfortunately fails to add enough to the original premise.
Much of the film feels as if it is rehashing events of the first movie and that takes away so much from the original feel for this film.
It’s nice seeing many of the characters from the original return even if they sometimes really don’t seem to make any sense as to why they show up.
The new characters aren’t developed well enough and they feel as if they are just there as part of the decoration even if Eddie Murphy also fails to give us anything new with his character who hasn’t changed much in the intervening years.
The nostalgia is here, but this movie doesn’t manage to add anything or expand on the ideas of the original and it’s just a waste of time.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – James Earl Jones was 88 years old when he filmed his scenes. Although in reasonably good health for a man of his age, and happy to appear in this movie, James did not want to travel far to do so. It is believed his few scenes were shot in one day on a rented TV soundstage nearer his home on the New York state/Connecticut border, without Eddie Murphy or any of the other Atlanta-based cast members present. This explains why he and Eddie Murphy never talk face-to-face in the film. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
