Bride Wars (2009)

“They haven’t spoken in a week. That’s like a century in girl years. ” – Daniel

Number of Times Seen – Twice (16 Apr 2009 and 10 Mar 2021)

Brief Synopsis – Two best friends get engaged on the same day and due to a mistake end up scheduling their weddings for the same day, which causes them to become rivals.

My Take on it – Intriguing idea that works even better due to the performances of Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway in the leads.

WE can get a real feel for the friendship between the two of them and that allows us to care about what will eventually happen.

The film gives us some really fun scenarios where these characters try to outdo one another and they mostly work to help make things more enjoyable to watch.

The antics they play on one another don’t go too far and allow for things to stay within a friendly kind of environment.

Having Candice Bergen narrate is also a good choice because she usually doesn’t play these kind of characters and that helps make this story feel like a fairy tale kind of scenario.

The film does a great job showing the craziness of wedding preparations and we also get to see how men and women look at these kind of arrangements from a very different perspective which helps add to the enjoyment of things along the way despite being slightly far-fetched.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – One shot during the reception includes a complicated series of dance steps. After many failed attempts, an extra who happened to be a dance instructor asked to teach the actors how to perform the steps correctly. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
