Collective (2019)

“When the press bows down to the authorities, the authorities will mistreat the citizens. This has always happened, worldwide, and it has happened to us.” – Catalin Tolontan

Number of Times Seen – 1 (16 Mar 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A documentary crew goes undercover n order to try and figure out what is wrong with the Romanian Health Care system due to politically motivated schemes.

My Take on it – fascinating documentary that is able to show the way that this team was able to gather information about the decline of the Romanian National Health Care System.

Te things they uncover here are quite shocking especially since it all is connected to so many politically motivated reasonings that are uncovered along the way.

It’s amazing that this film became the very first film to be nominated for both Best International Feature and Best Documentary at the Oscar this year.

{Update, 25 Apr 2021} – The film wasn’t able to win either of its bids this year.

Things get a bit too technical along the way and that doesn’t make it any easier to fully comprehend everything that the film is trying to tell about the corrupt system.

The fact that a film like this can be made and is able to make social changes is great and that enhances the story so much knowing what they were able to achieve through this real story.

Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The first Romanian film nominated for the Academy Award as ‘Best Foreign-Language Film’ / ‘Best International Feature Film’. (It’s actually the first Romanian-language film nominated for any Academy Award, let alone in two categories.) (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
