Brief Synopsis – In a futuristic apocalyptic wasteland, a woman tries to escape from a cult leader with the help of a loner, known as Mad Max.
My Take on it – Amazing action film that is a two hour action pocked story.
The special effects are somewhat minimal because most of the stunts are done using practical effects which enhances the story.
The plot itself is quite minimalistic and that works really well in establishing this as a pure action film where characters are trying to escape Point A by getting to Point B as quickly as possible.
The film is also great from a technical standpoint and they were able to garner 10 Oscar nominations including Best Picture and Director.
It was able to deservingly win 6 technical awards – Editing, makeup, Costume, Production Design, Sound Mixing and Sound Design.
The cats is also great with Charlize Theron showing how great an action character lead she can be even in a sci-fi film like this one.
Tom Hardy is also superb as Max.
The story is presented in a very thrilling and gripping way that stays so interesting and fun the entire way through.
The best part about this film is the exhilaration of it all that never lets up until the credits role and the viewer can let their breath out.
As fun a movie as this is, I’m still a bit baffled how it can be considered Best Picture material.
Yes, from a technical standpoint, this is truly a great achievement, but it just isn’t as poignant and powerful as I would expect from a film nominated for the top prize.
This is still a film that I regret not seeing on the big screen because it seems like it would be amazing there.
Maybe some day, I’ll get the opportunity to do so.
Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Margaret Sixel (Editor) is director George Miller’s wife. When she asked why he thought she should take on this project, as she had never edited an action film before, Miller replied, “Because if a guy did it, it would look like every other action movie.” Sixel’s work paid off; she received an Academy Award for Best Editing. Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10) (no change from original review)
