“As Stella used to say – there’s a difference between can’t remember and won’t remember.” – Bob
Number of Times Seen – 1 (21 Mar 2021)
Brief Synopsis – A gorilla living in a traveling circus tries to understand his place in the world.
My Take on it – Such a fun film that strangely is meant to be based on a true story.
The idea that they decided to create a story about a real event actually works much better than I would have expected.
The film has superb special effects that helps make things feel even more realistic in all that they do.
This film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
The animals are all created via these special effects and the interactions between the characters and animals is quite good.
The voice cast is also great with Sam Rockwell doing a wonderful job in the title role because we can empathize so much with everything happening to him as well as see his perspective on all that transpires here.
In addition to Rockwell, we get Danny Devito, Angelina Jolie and Helen Mirren voicing some of the other prominent characters.
Bryan Cranston is also great as the ringmaster and his interactions with the animals also works well which once again shows how great the effects are here.
Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Towards the end of the movie, Henrietta says, “Ain’t nobody loves you better.” Henrietta is voiced by singer Chaka Khan, and this line is a paraphrase of one of the lines from her well known song, “Ain’t Nobody.” (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
