Number of Times Seen – Twice (27 Jul 2011 and 22 Apr 2021)
Brief Synopsis – After his wife leaves him for her drug dealer an ordinary guy becomes a superhero despite his lack of real crime-fighting skills.
My Take on it – Fun idea that just doesn’t work well enough.
Rainn Wilson does a nice job with this story and character, but the way things are presented just don’t make things interesting enough.
The pacing is far too slow for a superhero-esque film and it takes a while for things to start moving in any direction.
The narration by Wilson throughout the film is essential, but gets irritating far too quickly because it lacks any kind of real excitement.
The action scenes are far too clumsy and don’t work very well despite the fact that they are meant to be presented that way.
Kevin Bacon is a super actor but plays the villain in a terrible way that doesn’t make him really feel threatening or menacing in any way which also hurts the way this story is shown.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The role of Jacques was supposed to be played by Jean-Claude Van Damme up until a week before shooting began. Gunn said “the guy was kind of A.W.O.L. I just couldn’t risk that personality type on this movie.” Kevin Bacon stepped in as a last minute replacement. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
