“It’s brutal and it’s honest and it’s right there in your face as it was for them.” – Steven Spielberg
Number of Times Seen – 1 (25 Mar 2021)
Brief Synopsis – Behind the scenes documentary about how the miniseries “The Pacific” was created.
My Take on it – Amazing behind the scenes documentary that allows us to get a much clearer idea as to how and why this miniseries was made.
They allow us to hear insights about the production by actors, producers, writers and even the real men for whom some of the parts of the story are based on.
We also are shown how some of the sets were built in order to try and show us how difficult the terrain and battles were that these brave men fought for our freedom.
The background information as to why they chose to make a miniseries on this scale is quite fascinating to hear especially given the fact that both Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg were the brains behind the series and both served as Executive Producers on it.
The way that they describe how they were able to recreate key battles in the war in the Pacific is really thought provoking because we get to see how much research went into creating such a detailed story based on real events like these.
As an avid fan of the miniseries, this was quite fascinating to watch and is also a really powerful and poignant introduction to the stories of the men who fought in the Pacific front for both those who are already familiar with as well for those still unfamiliar with this series.
