The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
This month’s genre has been chosen by Rebecca of Almost Ginger and we will be reviewing our favorite Travel Film.
Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Apr by sending them to firstname.lastname@example.org
Try to think out of the box! Great choice Rebecca!
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Travel Film……
Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 Apr 2021)
Brief Synopsis – Years after the events of the first film, Sophia attempts to reopen the hotel while dealing with her fond memories of his mother.
My Take on it – As a fan of ABBA’s music, I was quite keen to finally see this just to be able to see how they would integrate the many unused songs from the first film here.
The story is far much weaker than the one from the original film and things feel too forced in this outing.
The fact that they managed to get the entire original cast back is amazing and the additions of Andy Garcia and Cher help things sightly along the way.
The plot and characters fail to make the viewer care about anything more than the music.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – After appearing in this movie, Cher recorded a full album of ABBA covers, aptly titled “Dancing Queen”. (From IMDB)
Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not even close. Great music, very choppy story line.
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
