Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 Apr 2021)
Brief Synopsis – Two childhood friends team up to try and stop the ever rising crime rate in Chicago led by superhumans.
My Take on it – Fun film that works better than it should due to the great chemistry between Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy
The story itself is quite silly and they present certain aspects of the narrative in a strange way, yet the humoristic elements within the story keep things afloat.
McCarthy is a born comedienne and uses this as her strength throughout the film.
The main villains played by Bobby Cannavale and Jason Bateman seem too much like cartoon characters than bad guys that one might actually fear.
I did love seeing Pom Klementieff here also as one of the villains, but she isn’t given enough to do with such a potentially great character.
The way that they depict the origin story also works nicely in helping establish both the close-knit friendship of the two leads while also showing the growing pains they each much endure in order to gain and utilize their new found powers.
The film is directed by McCarthy’s husband, Ben Falcone, but even his talent can’t help make things even more enjoyable to watch unfold.
They are able to satirize many different superhero films and tropes along the way which are great to see from the perspective of someone, like me, who enjoys superhero films immensely.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer have been friends for 20 years in real life. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
