Follow Me: The Yoni Netanyahu Story (2012)

“We are all human. Some happy with our lot and some searching and searching.  I don’t regret the crossroads I’ve past, and if there is more beauty, more flowers along the road I didn’t take, I still don’t regret it, because it wasn’t my road.” – Yoni Netanyahu

Brief Synopsis – Documentary that tells the life of fallen soldier Yoni Netanyahu via his letters o family and friends over the years.

My Take on it – Such an amazingly emotional documentary because it allows us to get inside the head of someone who went thru much change during his short life.

The letters he wrote really expressed his feeling about his duty, his homeland and most importantly, his life.

This film is able to also give us so much access to family, friends, colleagues and brothers in arm who shed so much light on his unique and distinct personality.

He died 45 years ago, but his legacy still goes on and that is so fascinating to watch as the various people interviewed speak of the kind of man and soldier that he was.

Love the way that they tell the story in chronological order over the course of his life, yet, still use the events of the Entebbe Hijacking as an anchor along the way since it keeps jumping forward to those events in order to give us such a profound perspective on those events and how they were the culmination of such an extraordinary life.

He was such an inspirational leader that always led by example instead of waiting for others to take the mantle first.

Such a powerful and poignant film that resonates constantly.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Yonathan Netanyahu’s younger brother, Benjamin Netanyahu, has been Prime Minister of Israel since 2009, and also served in that office between 1996 and 1999. Both Benjamin and their younger brother, Iddo Netanyahu, served in the same special forces unit as did Yoni; Sayeret Matkal. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10) (no change from original review)
