The Awakening (2011)

“There’s no place on earth people understand loneliness better than here. ” – Maud Hill

Number of Times Seen – 1 (18 Apr 2021)

Brief Synopsis – Following the Great War, a spirit debunker is summoned to a boarding school to discover if there truly is a child haunting the estate.

My Take on it – Anyone who knows me, is aware of the fact that I’m not usually a fan of films that deal with horror and the supernatural, but I heard good things abut this film, so I decided to give it a chance.

The movie has a very intriguing idea that works due to the various twists and turns along the way.

The story slowly develops itself and the way that the information about the characters and situations are presented adds to the suspense and tension of everything that transpires.

Rebecca Hall is great in the lead and enhances the story with her performance here.

The supporting cast is also great and both Dominic West and Imelda Staunton help keep things even more intriguing to watch due to their stellar performances.

Love the way that the story moves along and slowly allows us to get an idea as to what is going on as things progress while still keeping things slightly ambiguous which helps enhance the tension of it all.

The film is able to stay thrilling throughout which enhances things even more.

Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The location used for the school, the Mansion of Lyme Park in Cheshire, was also used as Mr. Darcy’s estate, Pemberley, in the 1995 BBC series starring Colin Firth. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
