Bad Medicine (1985)

“You kill me, I kill you right back!” – Dr. Ramón Madera

Number of Times Seen – 1 (18 Apr 2021)

Brief Synopsis – After being rejected from all US based Medical schools, an aspiring doctor goes to a Latin American Medical School to get his degree.

My Take on it – Horrendous film that fails to be funny on any level.

Steve Guttenberg had recently made a name for himself in Police Academy (1984), yet his acting here is atrocious.

The film also stars Alan Arkin and Julie Haggerty, yet they too aren’t given enough to work with.

The characters aren’t developed on any level and they mostly all seem like caricatures and stereotypes instead of trying to give us something more ‘meatier’ to sink our teeth into.

This also makes it even more difficult to care or sympathize with any of these very superficial characters.

As a comedy, this film fails on so many levels especially given the fact that most of the jokes are one’s someone groans at instead of laughing at it.

Loved seeing Julie Kavner and Curtis Armstrong in small roles and they both are able to add a bit to the enjoyment of this film.

The story never makes much sense and that also hurts things quite a bit because they are extremely erratic in all that they do here.

The story plays out in such a silly way that it still baffles me how they were even given the green light to make this terrible film.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The movie was originally scheduled for release in August 1985, but ended up being pushed back to November 1985. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (2/10)
