“A very famous man once said that sincerity is everything. Once you learn to fake that, the rest is easy.” – Harrison Hill
Number of Times Seen – Twice (13 Jan 2008 and 19 Apr 2021)
Brief Synopsis – An investigative reporter goes undercover at a business from while trying to solve the murder of a friend.
My Take on it – Very intriguing premise that unfortunately doesn’t deliver well enough.
The cast is great and Halle Berry does a nice job in the lead.
Bruce Willis gets prominent billing, but he unfortunately doesn’t appear enough on screen despite playing a very important character.
The cat and mouse aspect of the film works well, especially when dealing with the computer and online aspects of the story.
The story tries too hard to try and make things seem more clever and surprising than it really is and that actually hurts things a bit too much because it’s far too obvious.
Parts of the story move a bit too slow and that’s also a bit problematic especially because of the way that they build up numerous red herrings along the way in order to throw the viewer off course over and over again.
Another issue with this film is that they give us numerous flashbacks in order to help influence the thoughts of the viewer when thinking about the direction that the story decides to take.
I’d love to see the three different endings that they filmed for the movie. (see Trivia below).
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The filmmakers filmed three different endings to the film, each with a different character as the killer. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
