Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse (2021)

“You better hope he doesn’t survive.” – Karen Greer

Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 May 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A special forces officer and his team are targeted by an unknown organization following a successful mission.

My Take on it – Nicely done thriller that manages to stay gripping from start to end.

This film fits in really well within the universe of Tom Clancy despite the story only having bare resemblance to the original story by Clancy.

The film take s some liberties with characters in order to keep things “within the family” and some work while others are a bit off key.

The best thing about these kind of stories are the complex conspiracies and ambiguous political situations that the characters get themselves in to and this film is filled with them.

The action scenes are also done really well and helps keep things flowing at a great pace.

The choice to put the story in the present day instead of during the Vietnam era also works because it makes the story and the characters feel much more tangible and genuine within the modern world we live in.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The film adaptation of Tom Clancy’s 1993 novel ‘Without Remorse’ had been in development since the 1990s. In 1994, Keanu Reeves was offered $7 million for the role of John Clark but turned it down. In 1995, pre-production was well under way when Savoy Pictures shut down the project, which was set to star Laurence Fishburne and Gary Sinise. In 2012, Christopher McQuarrie signed on with Paramount Pictures to direct the film, with Tom Hardy in talks to play John Clark and Kevin Costner in talks to play his mentor, William Harper. In September 2018, it was announced that Michael B. Jordan would be playing John Clark in a two-part film series, which will be composed of ‘Without Remorse’ and ‘Rainbow Six’. Director Stefano Sollima was announced in December 2018 and filming began in Berlin in October 2019. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
