Voyagers (2021)

“I want to be honest with them about everything. Otherwise, they’ll lose faith in me.” – Richard

Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 May 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A group of genetically enhanced children are sent on a decades long mission to an inhabitable planet with the hope that their grandchildren will reach their final destination and create a new life there.

My Take on it – This was such a thrilling film that feels like a modern version of Lord of the Flies by William Golding set in space.

The premise is set up quite well and they allow the viewer to see how so many psychological and philosophical ideas can be put together in order to keep the story moving in a fascinating way.

The fact that the whole story takes place in a small area helps add to the claustrophobic and paranoid feel of the story.

The characters are unfortunately not developed well enough and that does hurt things a bit because the characters are all pretty one dimensional even if the idea is quite good.

The way that things unfold is done well and helps the viewer get a clear idea of the various issues that these characters need to deal with throughout.

The cast is also great with Tye Sheridan, Lily Rose Depp, Fionn Whitehead and Colin Farrell helping add to their characters and the conflict that arises between them as the story progresses.
