The Proposal (2009)

“C’mon. Let’s go. My grandma’s moving faster than you. ” – Andrew Paxton

Number of Times Seen – Twice (4 Oct 2009 and 9 May 2021)

Brief Synopsis – When a ruthless book publisher is threatened with deportation since she isn’t a US Citizen, she wrangles her assistant into agreeing to marry her in order to stay in the country and keep her job.

My Take on it – Intriguing idea for a romantic comedy even if similar story lines have been done before.

The cats is great with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds having fine chemistry together.

The supporting cast is also great with Craig T. Nelson, Mary Steenburgen and Betty White all adding to the gravity of the situation.

White is hilarious in the few scenes she’s in and always manages to steal the scene each time so well.

The biggest problem here is that Bullock is usually given the role of a sweet character, but here her ruthlessness just doesn’t work well enough.

The movie does have some fun scenes, but overall something is missing that would have helped make this so much more entertaining to watch unfold.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – After the film premiered, Sandra Bullock told the UK’s “GMTV” that she knows why “The Proposal” was her biggest box office opening yet. It was obviously because she was naked, she joked. “I’m going to be naked in every single film. Can you imagine me at 70? Zac Efron doing a big film, there I am, running naked in the background. Just back and forth until someone notices. Big box office. They’re all going to want me in their film.” And while the longtime star said she’s ready to strip down again, she noted nudity works best at the box office when it’s just for laughs. “If you’re naked and you’re trying to be sexy, you don’t really make as much money as if you’re naked and you’re funny,” she explained, naming one actor as a master of the style. “Will Ferrell has been onto that for quite some time. Have you noticed how he drops his trousers in every single film? I’m going to do that from now on. Action film. All naked!” (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
