Ravenous (1999)

“If you die first, I am definitely going to eat you, but the question is, if I die, what are you going to do? Bon appétit… Eat or die.” – Ives

Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 May 2021)

Brief Synopsis – During the mid-19th Century, a cavalry soldier is sent to a deserted outpost where he encounters a man claiming that his traveling companions were killed by a cannibal.

My Take on it – This is a film that I had never heard of before recently coming across it and the amazing cast is what drew me in.

The story itself is borderline horror and borderline thriller and works much better than I would have expected given the premise.

The cast is superb with Guy Pearce, Robert Carlyle, John Spencer (in his final film performance), Jeremy Davies, David Arquette and Jeffrey Jones all helping to keep things engaging throughout.

The film has lots of mystery involved within the storyline and they ask some very powerful questions along the way.

The way that these characters each deal with the various situations that their party encounter is done in a crazy way, yet still remains quite poignant throughout.

The film also deals with issues of cowardice and bravery in ways that one might not necessarily expect.

The story has some great twists and turns along that way that helps make it even more thrilling to watch unfold.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – It is 25 minutes into the film before Captain Boyd, who is in virtually every scene, utters his first full sentence. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
