“Allery, What are you doing?” – Iola Parkes
“I’m going to work.” – Allery Parkes
Number of Times Seen – 1 (19 May 2021)
Brief Synopsis – After the local factory is closed down, a long time worker continues to show up in order to feel more complete in his life.
My Take on it – This is a film that I came across by accident and was intrigued by the premise.
The fact that it doesn’t use any known lead actor helps keep the story feeling so much more genuine.
The cast is filled with character actors like lead Peter Gerety who are recognizable, but don’t make things feel too Hollywoodish.
The story plays out quite well and allows the viewer to get a clear idea as to why the characters do what they do and that helps make the first half of the film feel very powerful.
The second half isn’t as strong and lets things get away a bit from being more powerful and moving.
The story is purposely slow paced and that is only effective part of the time because there are scenes that drag along a bit too much.
The film does a nice job depicting the kind of life these small town factory families live and that helps keep the story moving in a nice and enjoyable direction.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The film’s planned theatrical release on March 27, 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was released on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, Vudu and Fandango Now video on demand services on May 5, 2020. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
