“My entire life, I’ve been nothing more than a stepping-stone to every relationship I’ve ever been in. There’s always been a next guy who’s better than me. For once in my life, I want to be that next guy. I’ve never said this to anybody before in my whole life. Cam… I love you. I love you, Cam.” – Charlie
Number of Times Seen – Twice (13 Oct 2007 and 23 May 2021)
Brief Synopsis – A man finds out that he has been cursed so that every woman he spends the night with will find their true love in the next guy which causes problems for him when he falls in love and doesn’t want to let this new girl go.
My Take on it – This is an intriguing premise that works for the laughs, but does cross the line a bit too much along the way.
Dane Cook is a great choice in the lead role and helps keep things feeling quite realistic throughout.
The film bends over backwards to try and show how desperate thousands of women must be and that just doesn’t feel true enough in the way things are depicted.
As a Rom-Com, despite being predictable, the story does have its moments, but along the way it strays much too far from its objective of getting two characters together to be effective enough.
None of the characters feel developed well enough and they all come across far too superficially which also hurts things too much along the way.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Chelan Simmons said this was probably the funniest movie she’s been in and it was so much fun to work on, especially since her hardest and longest day on set was just having to spend an entire day on a warm beach with Dane Cook. Even with being naked in front of the entire crew most of the time, she enjoyed it and felt many girls would have wanted her job that day. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
