Number of Times Seen – Twice (23 Dec 2010 and 25 May 2021)
Brief Synopsis – In order to gain a higher footing in his corporate job, a businessman must bring an eccentric guest to an exclusive party.
My Take on it – Really fun film that works so well due to the amazing performance by Steve Carell.
He plays this character in such an over the top way yet it still feels very realistic in all that he does.
The story is presented as a comedy and the characters do get into some very strange and funny situations, but overall, this is a powerful drama about society and has a great message for everyone.
The story plays out really well and stays fascinating throughout.
In addition to Carell, the film has a great cast including Paul Rudd in the “straight” man role, Zach Galifianakis, Stephanie Szostak, Ron Livingston, Brice Greenwood, Octavia Spencer, Chris O’Dowd, Larry Wilmore and super-ventriliquist Jeff Dunham.
The eccentricities of the various “guests” at the party are a lot of fun to watch because they really take things to the extreme.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – One of the film’s writers, David Guion, was on set one day and noticed that Steve Carell was left handed. “I didn’t know you were left handed” he remarked to the actor. “I’m not”, replied Carell, “but my character is”. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
