Genre Guesstimation – Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by Joe of The MN Movie Man and we will be reviewing our favorite Summer Camp Movies.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Jun by sending them to summerjoe@movierob.net

Try to think out of the box! Great choice Joe!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Summer Camp Movies……

[to Jeff and Sandra] I told the others, they didn’t believe me. You’re all doomed. You’re all doomed. ” – Crazy Ralph

Number of Times Seen – 1 (6 Jun 2021)

Brief Synopsis – Following the horrors of the previous summer, a group of counselors decide to try and start the camp again.

My Take on it –When Joe suggested this months genre, I knew that it was high time for me to finally try and watch all the films in this series since I’ve only seen the original.

This is unfortunately, a poorly made sequel that just doesn’t manage to work at all.

The story comes across in a pretty silly way and due to the nature of this kind of film, none of the characters are developed enough for us to care as to whether they will ultimately become canon fodder or not.

The way that they expand on the idea of who is committing these murders from the previous film works in helping establish that Jason is a maniacal villain hell-bent on killing anyone in his path.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Following the release of Friday the 13th (1980), Adrienne King had numerous encounters with an obsessive fan. The situation escalated into a stalker case, and she decided to avoid any further acting opportunities. She has not done any on-screen film work since, but has done voice over work on several films more than 15 years later. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not really. It fits in with the rest of the genre, but doesn’t seem to offer anything really new.

Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
