Genre Guesstimation – Friday the 13th Part III (1982)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by Joe of The MN Movie Man and we will be reviewing our favorite Summer Camp Movies.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Jun by sending them to

Try to think out of the box! Great choice Joe!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Summer Camp Movies……

“Give me something to scream about.” – Chili

Number of Times Seen – 1 (10 Jun 2021)

Brief Synopsis – Another group of counselors try to start a camp at Crystal Lake with disastrous results.

My Take on it –My quest to watch more of the films in this summer camp slasher series for this month’s genre continues with the 3rd installment of this franchise.

Another film in this series that doesn’t manage to expand on the story, but feels as if it was made just to show how many more gruesome ways teenagers can be killed by the ever elusive Jason.

None of these characters are developed in any way, shape or form and that makes things even sillier along the way.

The story moves in a very predictable arc that doesn’t help make things any more enjoyable to watch.

The film has a few “scares” that are surprising and there is a chance that the 3D gimmick of the film made it more watchable and enjoyable in the theater but when watching it now there is nothing that makes it stand out in any way from other films of the series or of the genre itself.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – To prevent the film’s plot being leaked, the production used the fake title “Crystal Japan,” after a David Bowie song. This began an on-again, off-again tradition of giving “Friday the 13th” films David Bowie song titles during filming. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not even close. Another silly and predictable film in the series.

Rating – Razzie Worthy (2/10)
