Number of Times Seen – Twice (27 May 2004 and 13 Jun 2021)
Brief Synopsis – Depiction of how the siege at Waco began in 1993 and the battle of wits between David Koresh and the Federal Authorities.
My Take on it – They do such a great job depicting the events of the eventual Siege n Waco.
The fact that this movie was filmed during the standoff itself (following the initial attack) says more about the idea of grabbing the skillet when its hot than to tell a story that happened months or years earlier.
Tim Daly is great as David Koresh and makes his character stand out as a leader and a demagogue who preached his opinions in a fiery and engaging way.
The various subplots of the movie work well in establishing the complexities of all of the issues involved.
The way that both sides prepare for this attack is shown really clearly and they give the viewer a picture that shows it was all completely black and white.
It has subsequently been revealed that that wasn’t completely true and even nearly 30 years later, these controversies still remain unanswered.
regardless, they do a nice job here of showing the planning of this operation and how the various Federal agencies both worked together and against one another while trying to avoid an all out assault.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This movie was filmed during the actual standoff between the Branch Davidians and the FBI and the ATF, during David Koresh’s (Tim Daly) “they’re laughing at us” tirade to his flock, the cast and crew had just found out the real Davidians committed mass suicide by fire, hence the somber moods. Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
