7800th Review – Genre Guesstimation – Meatballs IV (1992)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by Joe of The MN Movie Man and we will be reviewing our favorite Summer Camp Movies.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Jun by sending them to summerjoe@movierob.net

Try to think out of the box! Great choice Joe!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Summer Camp Movies……

“Look, this isn’t working. Some movie star you are.” – Kelly Peterson

“I was in Goonies.” – Ricky Wade

Number of Times Seen – 1 (14 Jun 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A summer camp enlist the help of their former star counselor

My Take on it – Another terrible addition to this franchise.

Having Corey Feldman as the main teen star here doesn’t help things at all because he isn’t able to carry this story on his shoulders.

The film has a silly and simple plot that fails to find a way to remain engaging to the viewer.

The water sport antics and stunts add a few thrilling moments to the film, but they are short and fleeting and are drowned out by the rest of this mess.

The story is far too predictable for its own good and doesn’t leave the viewer wanting for anything besides for a more palatable film.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – During filming, Jack Nance received a call from his then-wife Kelly Jean Van Dyke saying that she was going to commit suicide. Nance attempted to console his wife over the phone, but a lightning storm killed Van Dyke’s end of the receiver. Nance, as well as the director, took 45 minutes to find a deputy sheriff, who in turn, contacted LAPD and Nance’s apartment manager, but by the time they had arrived at Nance’s apartment, it was too late, as Van Dyke had already hung herself. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not even close.

Rating – Razzie Worthy (2/10)
