Genre Guesstimation – Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by Joe of The MN Movie Man and we will be reviewing our favorite Summer Camp Movies.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Jun by sending them to summerjoe@movierob.net

Try to think out of the box! Great choice Joe!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Summer Camp Movies……

“I’ve seen enough horror movies to know any weirdo wearing a mask is never friendly.” – Lizabeth

Number of Times Seen – 1 (20 Jun 2021)

Brief Synopsis – After Tommy Jarvis accidentally brings Jason back to life, he once again goes on a murderous rampage around Crystal Lake.

My Take on it – Another slasher-fest that isn’t able to add anything new to the premise of the rest of the series.

The characters are all completely used as cannon fodder and the lack of development of any of the characters makes the story even more detached.

It’s really difficult to care about any of the characters and this also takes away from things.

Once again, the biggest thrill of this kind of movie is the new and ingenious ways that they try to dispatch ever one of these doomed teenagers along the way.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The first and only film in the series – including New Line Cinema’s three “Jason” films and the 2009 reboot – to feature absolutely no nudity, although there is one sex scene. Reportedly, writer-director Tom McLoughlin had approached actress Darcy DeMoss about appearing topless in her sex scene (she refused) but admitted later he felt uncomfortable about suggesting such a thing but had tried to appease his producers, who felt that the hardcore audience had come to expect it. It is also the lowest earning film in the franchise, though the two may not be connected. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not even close. Typical pointless slasher film

Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
