The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
This month’s genre has been chosen by Joe of The MN Movie Man and we will be reviewing our favorite Summer Camp Movies.
Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Jun by sending them to email@example.com
Try to think out of the box! Great choice Joe!
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Summer Camp Movies……
Number of Times Seen – 1 (20 Jun 2021)
Brief Synopsis – Jason is accidentally released from his underwater imprisonment and only a teenager with telekinetic powers can stop him.
My Take on it – In this film, they try to find a way to inject some new ideas into this series but unfortunately it isn’t enough.
What they end up doing here is try and bring in a supernatural element to the story which takes away from the slasher idea because they attempt to change the genre and the story slightly.
Unfortunately, this just isn’t effective at all.
Once again, none of the characters are developed on any level and this makes it even harder to care what happens to any of them along the way.
The different ways that they choose to kill the various characters is quite innovative, but besides that, this film truly has nothing new to really offer.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – During filming, Kane Hodder’s dressing room was a quarter of a mile down a dirt road. One night filming ended at 2 a.m. and while still in the Jason costume he decided to walk through the woods on a path to his dressing room. As he was walking someone approached him and asked if he was with the movie. He didn’t reply, because he thought it was a pretty stupid question to ask, as he was standing there in full Jason costume. When the man asked again, Kane took a little lunge at him and grunted. The guy took off, tripping and running. The next day director John Carl Buechler told Kane that the local sheriff was supposed to stop by, but he never showed. (From IMDB)
Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not even close.
Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
