Brief Synopsis – A construction worker longing for adventure decides to take a virtual trip to Mars, but something go wrong along the way.

My Take on it – Amazing premise that works so well here.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is superb in the lead role here and finds a way to make this character plausible in the various facets that we get to see him in along the way.

The story deals with lots of political intrigue as well as futuristic politics and stays fascinating from start to finish.

The special effects in the film are extraordinary and the special effects crew got an honorary Oscar that year for their work since apparently it was a known fact that no one would be able to top the effects in this film.

The plot moves along at a great pace and gives the viewer a fascinating look at the life of this character who isn’t even sure himself of who he really is.

The film also has great performances by Rachel Ticotin, Sharon Stone, Michael Ironside and Ronny Cox.

Love the way that the story gives the viewer some very ambiguous shits that raise into question whether this story is real or imagined.

The film also presents such a great look at the possible technologies of the future while keeping things a bit grounded in the way things are now.

Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia –  Arnold Schwarzenegger noticed that Michael Ironside was constantly on the phone between takes. When he broached the subject with Ironside, he was told that he was phoning his sister and that she was currently suffering from cancer. Arnold immediately brought Michael to his trailer and they had an hour-long, three-way conversation with Ironside’s sister about what exercises she should do and what kinds of foods she should be eating. Ironside has never forgotten Schwarzenegger’s kindness and neither has his sister. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10) (no change from original review)
