“[hands over hockey stick to Jason] Are you looking for this? Because, uh, it completes your outfit.” – Chewie
Number of Times Seen – 1 (22 Jun 2021)
Brief Synopsis – Reboot of the series where a killer goes on a rampage killing teenagers around Crystal Lake.
My Take on it – Completely unnecessary reboot because it fails to make anything feel more powerful.
The original moves in the series did a sufficient job showing how and why Jason started killing these teenagers visiting Crystal Lake.
The choice to set it in a more modern time helps keep things a bit more up to date due to advances in technology, but other than that, this follows a similar pattern as the rest of the films in the series, while offering the viewer nothing truly new and innovative here.
The teens are all killed in new and innovative ways and once again the choice to not develop any of the canon fodder long the way leave things feeling completely bland and incomplete since there is never any real reason to care about the characters running from this serial killer.
What’s more gut wrenching is that there never is even a need to root for any of them because they all seem far too superficial in all that they say or do along the way.
The fact that this reboot was made 13 years ago and that they never even attempted t continue it also says much about the kind of impact this film was able to make along the way.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Including the 2009 remake, Jason has killed around 200 people throughout the “Friday the 13th” series. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
