“I had this guy leave me a voice mail at work so I called him at home and then he e-mailed me to my Blackberry and so I texted to his cell and then he e-mailed me to my home account and the whole thing just got out of control. And I miss the days when you had one phone number and one answering machine and that one answering machine has one cassette tape and that one cassette tape either had a message from a guy or it didn’t. And now you just have to go around checking all these different portals just to get rejected by seven different technologies. It’s exhausting.” – Mary
Number of Times Seen – Twice (23 April 2009 and 22 Jun 2021)
Brief Synopsis – A group of singles and couples deal with relationship issues as their stories intermingle along the way.
My Take on it – Great premise that is quite effective.
The film has an amazing cast which helps keep things moving along.
Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Ginnifer Goodwin, Justin Long, Bradley Cooper, Scarlet Johansson, Jennifer Connelly and Drew Barrymore all allow for their characters to shine despite the fact that they all must share screen time.
The way that all of these characters are connected is so much fun to watch because it’s all done in a very nonchalant way which adds to the realism of the story.
The story does a nice job trying to present seemingly real relationships for these characters and the story moves in interesting directions.
The overall story asks the big question about what is true love and how do you know you’ve found it works really well within the context of this kind of story line.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Gigi Phillips (Ginnifer Goodwin) was named after writer Marc Silverstein’s wife, Busy Phillips and her baby blanket (“Gigi”). (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
