“Yes, yes. Mistakes were made. But, we won. ” – Marty Streb
Number of Times Seen – 1 (23 Jun 2021)
Brief Synopsis – In order to inspire his students and save the music program in his school, a high school teacher becomes a Mixed Martial Arts fighter.
My Take on it – Fun idea that just isn’t powerful enough.
Kevin James is perfectly cast in the lead role and I liked the fact that he slimmed down to play this character.
The premise of the film is quite silly and doesn’t really make any sense, but they do give a noble effort to try and make things enjoyable to watch.
James has terrible chemistry with Salma Hayek and that whole aspect of the film could have been easily excised.
The character that shines in this movie is the one played by Henry Winkler, the music teacher.
He brightens up the room whenever his character appears on screen and always has some thing funny to say along the way.
The fight scenes are fun to watch, especially when James gets beaten up, but overall, this premise is lacking something more that would have made it more engaging to watch.
In addition to Winkler, the supporting cast is great with Greg Germain, Gary Valentine (James’ real brother), Bas Rutten and Nick Turturro all pitching in to help.
They also manage to get a lot of real life wrestlers and fighters to have cameos here.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Kevin James started physically preparing for the role fourteen months before filming. He lost around seventy to eighty pounds (31.7 to 36.2 kilograms). (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
