The Pink Panther (1963)

“[having stepped on and broken the violin] Oh well, if you’ve seen one Stradivarius, you’ve seen them all.” – Inspector Jacques Clouseau

Number of Times Seen – 1 (23 Jun 2021)

Brief Synopsis – Inspector Clouseau is sent to Italy to try and find a cat burglar known as the Phantom”

My Take on it – Hilarious film that works so well.

Blake Edwards is a comic genius and this film is further proof of it due to the way that these characters all fall upon one another during the course of the story.

The jokes are quiet clever and the mix of both verbal and physical comedy helps make things even more humorous to watch unfold.

The fact that Clouseau is clueless about anything is perfect for Peter Sellers to play because he lets the character have a mind of his own and some of the subsequent shots are absolutely hilarious just by the way he reacts.

The film sports a superb supporting cast that is extremely talented.

David Niven, Robert Wagner are both brilliant here as relatives trying to both win over the wife of Inspector Clouseau in some really humorous ways.

This bumbling detective act works really well in order to keep everyone less suspicious of him, but the fact that everyone tries to steal his wife and he remains clueless to that fact only adds to the humor of the whole story.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – With just two weeks to go before shooting begun, the producers decided that Ava Gardner’s erratic lifestyle could affect filming and decided not to offer her the part of Madame Clouseau. Capucine was hired in a hurry, but Peter Ustinov’s wife felt this would affect the calibre of the production and told him to withdraw . From this chaos, Peter Sellers became an international superstar.(From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
