“These young men made a choice that life doesn’t dictate their destiny. They made a choice not to be a product of their environment but to be productive because of their environment. They made a choice that no matter what life throws at them they will stand by each other, fight for one another like a family should.” – Chad Mitchell
Number of Times Seen – 1 (6 Jul 2021)
Brief Synopsis – Members of a high school Football team try to give themselves a winning season, but personal issues make things even more challenging.
My Take on it – Great premise on paper, but in reality doesn’t manage to work at all.
This is base dona true story, but the personal stories of each of these players just doesn’t come across as being powerful or interesting enough as things move along.
The cast is mostly filled with unknown actors which actually hurts things in this situation.
The movie is headlined by Milo Gibson, son of Mel but he fails to make things more engaging.
Laurence Fishburne is also on all of the posters, but he only appears in a few scenes and isn’t more prominent in the film itself.
Love the cameo by John lackey, the baseball pitcher who actually grew up in this town, but even his short appearance can’t make this any better or interesting to watch.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Former baseball player John Lackey plays himself in this film at the rally before the final game. He grew up in Abilene and also played on the football team when he was in high school. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
