Billy Madison (1995)

“Mr. Madison, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.” – Principal

Number of Times Seen – 1 (12 Jul 2021)

Brief Synopsis – The spoiled son of a hotel magnet must prove that he can finish school (1st-12th grades) within a few months in order to inherit his father’s fortune.

My Take on it – There are certain films that can only work with specific actors in the lead roles.

Many of Adam Sandler’s films fit into that niche so well.

In particular, this is a movie that never would have come even close to working with the help of Sandler.

The story itself is quite silly and stupid and fails to work on so many levels.

The jokes mostly fall flat and the infantile way some of the characters act doesn’t work at all.

The problem with wanting to hate this film is that Sandler, as annoying as he can be, shows how much of a talented actor he can be when he [plays this role.

The movie gives some great examples of him doing this in class that are effective in showing that he really is able to stoop to the level of the kids he’s near so easily.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – During the dodgeball scene, Adam Sandler hit the kids with the dodgeball as hard as he possibly could. The editor had to cut away quickly after each hit so that he didn’t show the children crying. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
