Number of Times Seen – Twice (22 Jul 2009 and 13 Jul 2021)
Brief Synopsis – A businessman who has his whole routine planned out, misses a ferry which sends his whole day out of whack and puts him on the path to a disaster.
My Take on it – Hilarious idea that works so well because it comes across so powerfully and poignant.
Ryan Reynolds is great in the lead role and is able to play this kind of compulsive character so well.
The things that happen to him over the course of the movie all come across in such a plausible way which makes the viewer want to scream at the screen because of the way it all spirals downhill.
The events that transpire here are presented like a comedy of errors and work so well in being so ambiguous that sometimes their meaning can go either way which adds a whole new level to how it all plays out.
The supporting cast is great with Sarah Chalke, Emily Mortimer and Stuart Townsend all adding to the craziness of everything.
The story knows how to straddle the line between comedy and tragedy and that helps keep things so engaging and enjoyable to watch unfold since the viewer never knows what to expect just around the corner.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Ryan Reynolds plays Elisabeth Harnois’s father despite being less than three years older than her (945 days to be specific). Emily Mortimer, who plays Elisabeth Harnois’s mother, is less than eight years older than her in real life. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
