Three from the Filling Station (1930)

“Tell me, what have you been whispering about all evening?” – Konsul Cossmann

Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 Jul 2021)

Brief Synopsis – Three best friends sell their car and buy a gas station where they all end up courting the same girl.

My Take on it – Horrendous musical that is so silly and fails to work on any level.

This is a film that I knew nothing about before coming across it while seeking out films from this era in order to expand my repertoire.

Despite being very musical, this film was extremely boring and nothing really happens in the near 90 minutes of run time.

The characters aren’t developed well at all and it is quite difficult to find a way to differentiate between the three leads because they all look and act very similar.

I’m sure that the fact that I am not a fan of foreign language films is a factor in me not overly enjoying this film, but the fact that I watched and loved a 4+ hour film in French from that era early this week [Les Miserables (1934)]  shows that it all really depends on the story.

The film is meant to be perceived as a screwball comedy of the day, but the way that the romantic aspects of the characters are portrayed just isn’t done well enough for the viewer to really care as to whether the characters get together in the end or not.

I guess German musicals from the 30’s aren’t my kind of films.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Banned by the Nazis in 1937. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (2/10)
