Space Jam (1996)

“Ooh, I tawt I taw – I *did*, I did see Michael Jordan! ” – Tweety Bird

Number of Times Seen – Twice (Cable in the 90’s and 16 Jul 2021)

Brief Synopsis – After aliens threaten the Looney Tunes crew, the characters challenge them to a basketball match that will decide their future.

My Take on it – This is a film that I recall seeing not long after it came out yet didn’t remember much besides the overall premise.

The fact that a pseudo sequel was coming out gave me the opportunity to rewatch this film in order to see what it’s all about and see whether it manages to hold up after 25 years.

I really liked the way that they integrate animation with love action scenes in this film.

The plot is overly simple yet still stays enjoyable to watch unfold.

The cast of Looney Tines characters who appear is great and it was quite nostalgic seeing so many of them appear here.

The way that the story is able to integrate Michael Jordan’s retirement and change of career works quite well and helps keep things seeming so real.

The best part of this film is the music since it is filled with lots of songs from R. Kelly, Seal and other greats from the 90’s.

Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – After Daffy suggests naming the team “the Ducks”, Bugs asks “What kind of Mickey Mouse organization would name their team the Ducks?” This was a dig at the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League, which were established by The Walt Disney Company. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
