“Just get one thing straight, Wimp. We may be stuck with you, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to ruin our trip just because you’re a little brat kid! We’re going to be as crude as we want, as filthy as we want, and as gross as we want! You understand that, Wimp? ” – Dave
Number of Times Seen – 1 (19 Jul 2021)
Brief Synopsis – A trio of teens decide to travel to Tijuana to lose their virginity.
My Take on it – Completely silly and implausible film because two of the 3 characters don’t even pretend to look as if they are desperate for this momentous time of their lives.
The story plays out in a typical teen sex comedy way and there really isn’t anything unique or new in the way that things move along.
The characters are all very stereotypical and that also doesn’t help make this any more enjoyable.
The fact that Tom Cruise chose this as his first starring role (he had a small role in one other film before this) is understandable as he was looking for a way to break into the film business, but there is no excuse for Shelley Long to have partaken in this film.
She is much more classy than a expected in this kind of film and It was quite disappointing seeing her “slum” in this kind of role, (even with the fact that she played a prostitute in Night Shift (1982) the year before.)
The various scenarios of what happens to these characters are all typical for these kind of movies and is isn’t engaging on any level here.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Reportedly, Tom Cruise said in an interview with ‘Playboy’ magazine that he did this movie because of Jackie Earle Haley. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (2/10)
