Olympic Dreams Blogathon – 16 Days of Glory (1985)

This a post that is part for the  Olympic Dreams Blogathon being run by Sally of 18 Cinema Lane

Tnx for letting me take part!

“For many years preceding the Los Angeles games, the world press had reported that the Coe/Ovett rivalry had been unfriendly. This was denied by both men. Ovett attempted to clarify the situation. Said Ovett – We are not the best of friends, nor are we enemies, rather, we are rivals. ” – Narrator

Number of Times Seen – 1 (21 Jul 2021)

Brief Synopsis – Documentary about the triumphs, tribulations and defeats at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

My Take on it – This is a film that I heard about a few years ago, but the near 5 hour running time kept me far away up until now.

Since it fit in with this blogathon, I decided to see what it was all about.

I was blown away by this film and was engrossed for almost 5 hours as I got a very intimate look at the way that the Olympics is run in a very comprehensive way.

The film is able to go into minute detail while trying to explain some of the events as they focus on some of the various front runners in each of the focal competitions.

The story moves along at a great pace and despite this film’s length, there isn’t a boring moment through due to the way it plays out.

The documentary is very detailed in each of the sports covered which enhances the story to a point where it helps make the viewer become even more involved with everything transpiring.

Personally, I am not a sports person, but this film go me so much into everything that happened here and I found it so thrilling and fascinating to watch unfold.

Love the way that they don;t only focus on medal winners and that helps keep the suspense up throughout because the viewer never knows if the subsequent story line will end in triumph or defeat for the focal sportsman/sportswoman for that segment.

This is definitely going to be very high when I revise my list of favorite movies from this year because it is spectacular to watch.

Highly Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The film premiered at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California on July 29, 1985. It had a two-week Oscar qualifying run in Santa Monica, California beginning October 23, 1985, and opened in New York City on March 7, 1986, grossing $84,000. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy (10/10)
