“I am not interested in sports, but I am interested in obsessions.” – Mai Zetterling
Number of Times Seen – 1 (21 Jul 2021)
Brief Synopsis – Documentary looking at 8 aspects of the Olympics from 8 different directors.
My Take on it –This is a film that I never would have probably come across had this blogathon not been suggested.
The unique idea for this film is amazing and allows for the viewer to get a much more intimate and deeper understanding of Olympic level athletes, their drive for winning and obviously their way they each take both victory and defeat in unique ways.
The fact that I watched 16 Days of Glory (1986) the day beforehand also enhanced my understanding of the various sports and how things actually work on the Olympic field.
Each of these directors takes a different aspect of the Olympics and give the viewer an intense look into that theme.
It is quite fascinating to watch unfold because despite having some slight overlap, each of these segments is quite unique in all that they are trying to show.
The stories are each quite intriguing and eye opening and show very diverse looks at the way Olympic games are held and all that this kind of event encompasses along the way.
The fact that they only touch upon the tragedy of the Munich 1972 Olympics in the final segment also works quite well because they manage to tell the story of these athletes without having to involve the terrorist attack.
This final segment deals with the Olympic Marathon and there seems to be a connection between the endurance of that sport and the tragedy of the ongoing terrorist activities in the world that were visited upon those Olympic Games.
Highly Recommended!

I really enjoyed reading your reviews for my blogathon! You did a good job providing a variety of content. ‘Visions of Eight’ and ’16 Days of Glory’ would actually make a good double feature. I’ll definitely check out both documentaries in the future! Thanks again for joining my blogathon!

Like I said, there’s no Olympics with more stories than 1972.
