The Over the Hill Gang Rides Again (1970)

“And in a way, you know, it was kind of fitting that of all of us, the Kid was the first to go. He, well, he always did like to lead the way. ” – Nash Crawford

Number of Times Seen – 1 (26 Jul 2021)

Brief Synopsis – The former Texas Rangers are back again, this time to help out another man from their crew who is in trouble.

My Take on it – Really silly sequel that doesn’t even manage to do any justice for the stellar cast involved.

The film takes place not long after the events of the previous film and this time, they need to regroup in order to help another former member of their squad played by Fred Astaire.

The action scenes are presented in a pretty silly way and don’t manage to make things enjoyable enough to watch unfold.

The main cast led by Walter Brennan, Andy Devine and Chill Wills are all back, but even with their Western “historical clout”, they aren’t able to help make this story or the characters more enjoyable to watch.

The choice to try and make a comedy western with these characters just doesn’t work well enough because as eccentric as they each are, none of the characters are unfortunately interesting enough to want to follow their exploits.

This film was made in an attempt to once again make a TV show pilot for these characters, but as happened the previous time, they failed once again to get the contract that they ad hoped for.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The only film in which Fred Astaire appears with a mustache. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
