Night Falls on Manhattan (1996)

This a Covid-19 2021 minireview!

“You were a cop, Joe. Now you’re a garbage! You are nothing! ” – Sean Casey

Number of Times Seen – 1 (17 Aug 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A newly elected district attorney must deal with a police corruption case that seems to lead to a place very close to home.

Bottom Line – Such a great Sidney Lumet films that asks some very tough questions about one’s own morality. Andy Garcia is superb in the lead role and is helped quite a lot here by supporting roles played by Richard Dreyfuss, Lena Olin, Jame Gandolfini and Ian Holm. The way that things play out is done in a very clever manner which helps raise the suspense level as the story unfolds. The way that the story is told gives the viewer much insight into both the police and justice systems and does so in a very realistic manner.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This movie is loosely based on the real-life case of Larry Davis, a drug dealer who shot six cops, but was acquitted (with William Kunstler as his lawyer) after charging that the police were trying to kill him because they were involved in the drug trade. The Manhattan District Attorney, Robert Morgenthau, was also nicknamed “Morgy”. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
