The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
This month’s genre has been chosen by Jess Manzo of French Toast Sunday and we will be reviewing our favorite Movies that take place over a 24 Hour Time Frame (Not including time loop movies).
Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Aug by sending them to 24hrJess@movierob.net
Try to think out of the box! Great choice Jess!
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Movies that take place over a 24 Hour Time Frame (Not including time loop movies). ……
“[after seeing the president carrying a rocket launcher] This is something you don’t see every day.” – Agent Kellerman
Number of Times Seen – 4 (1 Oct 2013, 7 Jul 2016, 17 Nov 2019 and 17 Aug 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A group of terrorists take over the White House and only an off duty DC cop can stop them.
My Take on it – This is a concept that has been done numerous times, yet they still manage to keep parts of it feeling fresh and unique.
Channing Tatum does a nice job in the lead and helps keep his character so enjoyable to watch as the story unfolds.
The story does go a bit beyond plausibility, yet when looking at a film like this from the perspective of it just being a fun action movie, it still stays fun.
This is basically a Die Hard (1988) doppelganger set in Washington which helps the plot succeed even more.
The action scenes are done quite well and the carnage level might be high, but it all sill looks great in the way t is all presented.
The plot has some nice unexpected twists and turns that helps keep it more engaging and thrilling along the way, even if the story isn’t as profound as it probably could have been.
The supporting cast is also great with Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jamie Foxx, Jason Clarke, James Woods and Richard Jenkins enhancing things even more.
Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Matt Craven plays Agent Roy Kellerman. Roy Kellerman was the name of the secret service agent that was seated in the front seat of the presidential limousine when President Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963. (From IMDB)
Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Close, but not enough.
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10) (slight upgrade from previous viewing)
