Genre Guesstimation – The House of Yes (1997)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by Jess Manzo of French Toast Sunday and we will be reviewing our favorite Movies that take place over a 24 Hour Time Frame (Not including time loop movies).

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Aug by sending them to 24hrJess@movierob.net

Try to think out of the box! Great choice Jess!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Movies that take place over a 24 Hour Time Frame (Not including time loop movies). ……

“Pennsylvania’s just this state that’s in your way when you’re trying to get someplace else. ” – Jackie-O

Number of Times Seen – 1 (18 Aug 2021)

Brief Synopsis – After her brother shows up with his fiancee, a mentally unbalanced woman has another crisis.

My Take on it – I decided that in order to make my guest choices of the Genre for the Genre Grandeur series more personal (and expand my own personal horizons of these genres), I will take a recommendation from my guest for a film to watch for this Genre Guesstimation series.

This movie was Jess’ choice for me to watch.

I went into this movie knowing absolutely nothing about it and found it to be far to strange for my taste.

The characters aren’t at all likable and it’s hard to try and root for any of them along the way.

The dialogue is extremely weird and the conversations between the characters go much too far in the way it is all presented.

The cast is fine and they all do adequate jobs making the viewer believe the various problems that this family faces.

did enjoy the JFK and Jackie aspects of the story, but it made things feel even more quirkier which hurt things far too much.

The story goes to some very dark places and that made things even less enjoyable to watch due to the direction that they take things.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Based on Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher.” (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not even close!!!

Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)

  2. I’m sorry you didn’t care for this- I think its definitely a love or hate it movie. I loved it! I do like weird and dark movies though, so I’m sure it played better to me. It has Parker Posey – what more do you want?! 😉 I am glad you gave it a shot.
