Genre Guesstimation – Sunday in New York (1963)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by Michaela of Love Letters to Hollywood and we will be reviewing our favorite ’60s comedies.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Sep by sending them to

Try to think out of the box! Great choice Michaela!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of ’60s comedies ……

“Is a girl who’s been going around with a boy a reasonable amount of time, expected to go to bed with him or not?” – Eileen Tyler

Number of Times Seen – 1 (14 Sep 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A young and innocent girl travels to the city to stay by her airline pilot brother, but a chance meeting with a stranger could cause problems with her impending marriage.

My Take on it – I decided that in order to make my guest choices of the Genre for the Genre Grandeur series more personal (and expand my own personal horizons of these genres), I will take a recommendation from my guest for a film to watch for this Genre Guesstimation series.

This movie was Michaela’s choice for me to watch.

I had never heard of this film beforehand and was quite interested due to the great cast.

Jane Fonda, Cliff Robertson, Rod Taylor and Robert Culp are all in top form here and this movie stays engaging due to their performances.

The story moves along at a great pace and is helped by superb dialogue.

The characters are fleshed out really well by the way they each act and speak and this allows for the viewer to care about what happens as the story unfolds in such a fun way.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Jane Fonda has been quoted as stating that this film was the first time she enjoyed making a movie or thought she was any good at acting.(From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Comes close.  Very engaging story that works so well due to the amazing dialogue.

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
