Feeling Minnesota (1996)

“Time is like an orange. It’s round. It repeats itself. Everything happens for a reason. ” – Freddie

Number of Times Seen – 1 (27 Sep 2021)

Brief Synopsis – When returning to his home town for his gangster brother’s wedding, a small time crook falls in love with his new sister-in-law.

My Take on it – Really silly and terrible film.

None of the characters are likable at all and there is no reason to root for any of them to succeed along the way.

Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz are both great actors,. but are completely wasted here.

Vincent D’Onofrio is miscast here as the gangster brother and is more ;laughable than convincing in the role.

The story moves along at a very strange pace and fails to engage the audience enough along the way.

The plot tries too hard to make things seem like a true love story, but there is no real chemistry between any of the characters which hurts things far too much.

The tone of the movie is off-kilter the whole way through which also makes it so much more difficult to care about what happens to any of the characters as things move along.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Feeling Minnesota’s title was inspired by some lyrics in the Soundgarden song ‘Outshined’: “I just looked in the mirror/And things ain’t looking so good/I’m looking California/And feeling Minnesota”. The band’s lead singer and the song’s composer, Chris Cornell, revealed to Blender magazine in 2005 that his lawyer told him that they could sue the filmmakers, but Cornell didn’t want to be part of that, he was embarrassed about his song inspiring the film’s title. Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
