Brief Synopsis – A World War II veteran, working as a chocolate salesman in Napa Valley makes a deal to help a pregnant young woman keep her honor when returning to her parents home.
My Take on it – This is a movie tat I fell in love with when I first saw it years ago.
The cast is wonderful and Keanu Reeves is perfectly cast in the lead because he shows his true dramatic potential as this character.
He has amazing chemistry with the rest of the cast ad helps make this story feel so real and magical at the same time.
The story is able to transport the viewer back to a more innocent time and it works so well.
The lot is simple, yet manages to develop the characters on very profound ways that it’s so easy to get involved in everything that transpires here.
The lush settings of the vineyards of the Napa Valley are presented really well here and that also adds to the realistic feel of it all.
The cinematography is also great and they give the viewer some great shots of this gorgeous area while making it all seem so angelic the whole time.
The story also shows how wounds can be healed in some very unique ways that one might no truly expect.
The score is also great and adds so much to the impact of this kind of story.
The film’s way of showing the connection between people and the land is great and is quite effective in telling this unique kind of story.
