Shanghaied (1915)

Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 Oct 2021)

Brief Synopsis – The Tramp is on a ship where the captain wishes to try and get some money from the insurance company.

My Take on it – Another fun Chaplin film that manages to help show how talented he was. The comedy is as usual quite fun to watch especially due to the amount of slapstick comedy that happens here along the way. The way that they are able to show the plot play out like this with just title cards is done well and helps add to the way things move along.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Restoration work was carried out at Lobster Films laboratory in 2014. Scanned at L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory. Shanghaied (1915) has been restored by Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna and Lobster Films in collaboration with Film Preservation Associates, from a nitrate fine grain preserved at The Museum of Modern Art. Intertitles have been reconstructed from re-release titles of 1920’s found in a Kodascope 16mm original element. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
